Promoting cat training to reduce veterinary visit stress a key focus of International Cat Day 2021

Up to 92% of cats will develop osteoarthritis and joint pain, making regular veterinary visits essential. International Cat Day custodian, International Cat Care, has developed a programme of free events to help owners train their cats to be comfortable with cat carriers, reducing pain and stress associated with travel.

PetSavers – Corneal cytology and canine ulcerative keratitis

Negar Hamzianpour and collaborators Christine Heinrich, Rachael Grundon and Rose Linn Pearl, from the Eye Veterinary Clinic, Leominster, Herefordshire, have been awarded PetSavers’ funding to explore whether the use of corneal cytology is a reliable tool for identifying the type of bacteria involved in cases of canine ulcerative keratitis, using culture as the ‘gold standard’.

Dogs with MMVD may develop reductions in PCV

A new study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Small Animal Practice (JSAP), identified an inverse relationship between packed cell volume (PCV) and the severity of myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs. The study was funded by BSAVA-PetSavers, the charitable division of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association.
