Ultrasound-guided percutaneous fine needle cytology moderately effective at retrieving clinically useful samples from GI lesions

A new study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Small Animal Practice (JSAP), found that ultrasound-guided fine-needle cytological biopsies (FNCB) of gastrointestinal masses provided a clinically useful sample in two thirds of cases, particularly when more slides were provided to the cytologist and thicker lesions were sampled.

BSAVA Virtual Congress Accredited by Veterinary Council of Ireland

BSAVA Congress (25-27 March 2021), one of the world’s largest events for the small animal veterinary sector, has been accredited by the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI). Accreditation is valid for the live event and amounts to a maximum of 25 CVE points per person over the three days.

SUB placement associated with a high complication rate

A new study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Small Animal Practice (JSAP), found that whilst subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) placement was associated with a high complication rate, most complications were manageable, resulting in an overall median survival time of over two years.

A first: Vet nurse appointed Chair of BSAVA Regional Committee and Council Representative

The BSAVA is delighted to announce that, for the first time, a veterinary nurse volunteer has been appointed as a Committee Chair and Council Representative. Emma Gerrard will take over from Kate O’Sullivan, the present chair of Cymru/Wales region committee, in April 2021.

RCVS Legislative Reform: Consultation Period Extended

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Consultation on Legislative Reform has been extended to April to give members of the professions and the public more time to respond, particularly in light of the current difficult circumstances resulting from the pandemic and lockdown restrictions. The new deadline for responses is 5pm Friday 23rd April 2021.
