BSAVA and SAMSoc launch antibiotics awareness campaign

6 November 2018

The BSAVA and the Small Animal Medicine Society (SAMSoc) has launched a proactive campaign to mark Antibiotic Awareness Week from 12-18 November. For the first time, vets can issue a ‘non-prescription form’ containing a ‘no antibiotics required’ message to inform owners when antibiotics are inappropriate.

Pet travel and companion animal Official Vets (OVs)

6 November 2018

Defra and APHA are making pet owners aware that if they have plans to travel abroad at the end of March 2019 or thereafter, they will need to take certain actions by the end of November 2018 to allow for a ‘no-deal’ scenario. Owners are being advised to liaise with their vet to obtain advice. BSAVA has liaised with Defra and APHA and there are some key points to be aware of if companion animal OVs are approached by their clients during November 2018.

BSAVA saddened to learn of death of former President Derek Tavernor

5 November 2018

The BSAVA is saddened to learn of the death of Derek Tavernor who was President of the BSAVA from 1970-71. William Derek Tavernor qualified from Liverpool University and was later awarded a PhD. After two years in general practice he worked in the virology department of Messrs Glaxo, then moved to the Royal Veterinary College where he was a lecturer and later senior lecturer in the department of surgery.

Become the future Junior Vice President of BSAVA

BVA supports MPs’ call for overhaul of ineffective dangerous dogs law

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has welcomed the recommendations put forward by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) committee on breed-specific legislation (BSL) today (Wednesday), which calls on the government to conduct a full-scale review of current dog control legislation and policy to better protect the public.
