Write to your local MP for tick change

2 December 2016

An Early Day Motion (EDM) from Liberal Democrat MP, Alistair Carmichael, is calling on the Government to re-introduce compulsory tick treatments for all cats and dogs travelling back into the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). BSAVA and BVA are inviting members to lobby their own MPs to back the EDM, which already has some cross-party support.

Feline Liver Disease Review

Southern BSAVA delegates were treated to two fascinating talks on feline liver disease from Dr Sheila Wills, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine and European Specialist in Veterinary Internal Medicine. Sheila started with an in depth discussion on liver parameters and how we can gather more information from routine laboratory tests.

Welfare coalition marks Acts anniversary

BSAVA has teamed up with six leading organisations to work on raising standards of animal welfare. The collaboration is being launched by marking the tenth anniversary of the Animal Welfare Acts (8 November), when we will be encouraging pet owners to have a closer relationship with their vet practice in order to understand their pet’s welfare needs, as well as encouraging pet owners not currently registered with a veterinary practice to start that relationship.

The VetSet2Go Employability (Stakeholder Perceptions) Survey

VetSet2Go (www.vetset2go.edu.au) is a project funded by the Australian Government Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT), and is a collaborative project involving researchers from seven veterinary schools from three countries (Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America). The project aims to define the capabilities most important for employability and success in the veterinary profession, and create assessment tools and resources to build those capabilities.

The first annual Eastern European Veterinary Conference thrives in Serbia

In October, Belgrade welcomed over 1,000 vets from 37 different countries around the Eastern European region and beyond. The first Eastern European Veterinary Conference (EEVC), organised by small animal veterinary associations from Serbia, Croatia and Romania with the support of BSAVA was declared a resounding success by delegates, exhibitors, sponsors and organisers alike.
